Monday, October 27th, 2008

They upset Oklahoma, mauled Missouri and survived Oklahoma State. Still, after all that, not everyone is sold on 8-0 Texas strolling to the national championship game.

“I’m gonna pick Texas Tech,” former USC coach John Robinson declared Sunday. If you believe Robinson, Texas’ third week on top of the Legends Poll, presented by Sporting News, will be its last. UW’s Legend James was roasted at recent charity event

Friday, October 24th, 2008

Washington Huskies’ coaching legend Don James was roasted at Rod Long’s All-Star Good Sports Banquet at the Hyatt Regency Thursday night. The roasters — Hugh Millen, Greg Lewis, Nesby Glasgow, Dick Baird, Chuck Nelson and Mike Gastineau — let the Dawgfather have it for a good cause.

Referring to an infamous incident in which James fired a bus driver for letting the second UW bus pass his on the way to Oregon, Millen said: “What you didn’t know is that Napoleon suffered from a Don James complex.” Regarding James’ short stature, Millen said: “He’s the only coach in America whose bobblehead doll is actual size.”

Proceeds from the event went to the Jennifer L. Collins Memorial Foundation, which benefits cancer patients around the Northwest.
