Alabama still the class of the SEC

Alabama continued its recent dominance over Penn State last Saturday with a 27-11 victory in Happy Valley. The win marks the second victory in as many years for Alabama over Penn State.

“I was disappointed in Penn State,” said former Alabama head coach Gene Stallings. “I thought Penn State would play a little better than they did. “

Alabama’s defense — as we’ve become accustomed with Nick Saban at the helm — was smothering, allowing just 251 yards of total offense and holding Penn State’s quarterbacks to around 30 percent completions.

“Alabama is too good a team for Penn State to beat,” Virginia legend George Welsh said. “Their defense is way better. Too much speed.”

Saban’s Crimson Tide team is expected once again to be the class of the SEC West, and our Legends agree with that sentiment.

“I haven’t seen enough of Oklahoma to say Alabama is the No. 1 team,” Stallings said, “but I think they’re better than LSU.”

Check back on Sunday, September 18 to see where Stallings and the rest our Legends Poll voters have Alabama ranked.
