Arkansas quarterback Ryan Mallett has never won a game on the road in the SEC. He’ll try to fix that this weekend when he leads his team between the hedges in Athens.
Georgia is coming off of an SEC road loss of its own at South Carolina last weekend. The Bulldog defense took a pounding from freshman running back Marcus Lattimore.
But redshirt freshman quarterback Aaron Murray has been rock solid in his first two college starts. Murray is averaging 176 yards passing per game and has three touchdowns to just one interception.
“Georgia will be much more comfortable at home — especially the quarterback (Aaron Murray),” said Georgia legend Vince Dooley. “I think they’ll be excited after that loss over there at South Carolina.”
And lucky for Georgia, Arkansas doesn’t have a running game to match South Carolina’s.
“Arkansas has sacrificed the running game for the short passing game, which is always risky,” former Razorback head coach Frank Broyles said. “Even on the goal line, they are not running the ball.”
Part of the reason is Mallett. He has thrown for 301 and 400 yards respectively in Arkansas’ first two games with three passing touchdowns in both. If he can shred the Georgia defense — the best defense he’s faced this year — like his first two opponents, then Arkansas may secure its first SEC road win in over a year.
