Game Ball: Washington Def. Coordinator Nick Holt

Positive changes are happening sooner than expected for the Washington Huskies as they upset then third-ranked USC 16-13 in Seattle.  The Huskies have gone from winless in 2008 to cracking the top 25.  Much of the turn around credit goes to new defensive coordinator Nick Holt and his aggressive reactive style.  After scoring 10 points on their first two possessions, the Huskies made defensive adjustments, allowing only three more points from the Trojans.

“Coach Holt started using his mind and made some great calls,” Huskies defensive back Quinton Richardson said.

With a game plan to maximize the linebackers, Holt’s defense forced three turnovers and allowed only 110 passing yards.  USC was 0-for-10 on third down conversions.

For his team’s great play, Nick Holt is awarded the “Legends Nike Game Ball” for the National Defensive Coordinator of the Week.
