Kush: Notre Dame still lacks skill athletes

If you felt a cool breeze over the weekend, it might have been the wind from the collective sigh of relief coming out of South Bend on Saturday.

Notre Dame was finally able to get into the win column with a 31-13 victory over Michigan State.

Our own Frank Kush was on hand and was invited to serve as an honorary captain for the game.

“The best thing about the ball game was the eating and scenery,” Kush said in jest when asked about the festivities on Saturday. “I was really disappointed in both teams to be honest with you.

“Neither team has great talent, you know, I’m talking about potential individuals. For example, Michigan State only had 29 yards rushing. They had no running game whatsoever. And at quarterback, you may say, well, maybe they can compensate, he just lacks the skills.”

Notre Dame wasn’t much better, going for only 275 total yards of offense in the ballgame. Kush wasn’t much impressed with the Irish defense either. The bunch allowed 329 yards through the air, despite only yielding 13 points.

“Just knowing Notre Dame as well as I do over the years, from the time I was in high school,” Kush said. “I was really surprised with the lack of the really skilled athletes.”
