Upsets rocked the Scripps Legends Poll.

Former No. 3 Oklahoma — which was ranked as high as No. 1 this year — fell short in its comeback attempt at home against Texas Tech, 41-38. And former No. 4 Wisconsin dropped its first game to Michigan State, 37-31, on a Hail Mary as time expired.

“Even when Wisconsin got behind, I really thought they would find a way to win that game,” former Indiana coach Bill Mallory said. “But Michigan State really deserved to win and made a heck of a play when they had to.”

The loss dropped Wisconsin to No. 10, one spot behind the ninth-ranked Spartans. Oklahoma fell five spots to No. 8.

No. 1 Alabama and No. 2 LSU stayed put atop the rankings as they continued to roll in the SEC. No. 3 Stanford climbed two spots, followed by No. 4 Oklahoma State and No. 5 Clemson, both making top 5 debuts.

No. 6 Boise State moved up a spot, but was jumped by yet another team in fifth-ranked Clemson.

“I think Boise State’s defensive front is one of the best in the country and (quarterback) Kellen Moore is outstanding,” former UCLA coach Terry Donahue said. “But they don’t play a tough schedule week-in and week-out like the SEC teams, for example, and that’s obviously what hurts them in the polls.”

Arkansas came in at No. 11, followed by unbeaten Kansas State, Virginia Tech, Nebraska and South Carolina.

No. 20 Penn State moved into the Scripps Legends Poll for the first time this season. Other newcomers this week were No. 22 USC, No. 24 Texas Tech and No. 25 Baylor.

Georgia Tech — which was ranked No. 12 two weeks ago — dropped out of the rankings after its second straight loss. Illinois, Auburn and Washington were also unranked following losses.
