West Virginia looks to shock LSU

On Saturday night, Les Miles will bring his vaunted LSU defense — and his hat — to Morgantown to face West Virginia in what many perceive as a mismatch.

Former Mountaineer coach Don Nehlen says that West Virginia may deserve more respect than it’s receiving.

“Well, you know we have them at home and they changed it to a night game so it’ll be a crazy place,” Nehlen said on Monday’s Scripps Legends Poll teleconference. “You know, we got a great quarterback and we got good skill.  I think our defense is average and I think our offensive line is average. If we can pass protect, we got a great chance, I think.  LSU struggles offensively. We’re probably better than people think. We got a lot of little guys that can run I’ll tell you that. So, it’ll be interesting.”

The Legends Coaches were high on LSU in the first poll of the season, particularly the Tiger defense. The LSU defense has allowed just 12 points per game during the Tiger’s 3-0 start. And even that number includes a 27-point game from Oregon’s fast-paced offense. LSU has surrendered only field goals since the opening weekend, yielding 3 points to Northwestern State and 6 points to Mississippi State.

If they get to our quarterback, we got no chance,” Nehlen said. “But if they don’t get to him, I’m telling you, I’ve watched all of them and he’s every bit as good as any of them – maybe better.”

Do you think West Virginia has a chance to pull the upset in Morgantown?
